Rewiring Your Home

Rewiring is a complex and essential task for homeowners, as it involves replacing outdated cables that power everything from outlets to lighting and appliances. Cables typically need replacement every 25 years, as older cables can deteriorate or become unsafe, leading to fire hazards or electric shocks. Our rewiring service ensures that your electrical system is modern, safe, and certified. We carefully prepare the site, route new cables through walls, floors, and attics, and organize them into separate circuits for lights and sockets. This process may involve lifting carpets, floorboards, and chasing walls, all while eliminating potential risks to your home’s safety.

Chasing Brick Walls Gets Messy!

Rewiring an older property typically involves working with brick or lath/plaster walls. For brick, we use wall chasers with dust extraction and power tools to quickly and efficiently cut through the material, although some dust may still be created. When dealing with lath/plaster, we minimize damage to the internal strapping, ensuring any minor damage is properly repaired for structural integrity. Floorboards can be tricky to remove, but we use the appropriate tools to make precise cuts and minimize damage, taking care if you plan to re-sand the boards. We route cables by boring holes in the joists or notching timber, then cover them with a metal safe plate, before securing the floorboards back in place.

Once the cables are routed and back boxes are mounted, we install protective capping to keep everything neat and prevent damage during plastering. Our plasterers repair any damage, and once the plaster sets, we install your new sockets and switches. Rewiring is a major undertaking, and our engineers are happy to discuss every aspect of the job before we begin. All of our electricians hold NAPIT Certification, ensuring that all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
